Coincidences at Broad Museum in Los Angeles
12/01/2024Inspired by Stefan Draschan's work "Coincidences at Museums," where the author produced brilliant and thought-provoking photographs from accidental matches of visitors’ attire and artwork, I decided to take my camera to Broad Museum in Los Angeles and try to produce something similar. I hope you enjoy this album.
Stefan Draschan's book, "Coincidences at Museums," is a fascinating collection of photographs that showcase the intersection of art, observation, and coincidence.
His unique style involves capturing moments where museum visitors inadvertently match or complement the artwork they are viewing. This simple yet brilliant concept highlights the power of observation and the role of coincidence in creating unexpected and beautiful moments.
By spending countless hours in museums, mostly in Berlin, the author has developed a unique perspective on the relationship between art, viewer, and space.
These coincidences are not only amusing but also intellectually stimulating. They invite the viewer to reflect on the nature of art, perception, and reality.
Stefan Draschan's work was the inspiration for this blog post. While I was clearly lacking the time and patience to produce masterpieces comparable to his, I think the result is actually not too bad. You be the judge.
For this spontaneous photoshoot, I went to a different part of the world, The Broad Museum in Los Angeles. This beautiful contemporary art museum offers a unique and immersive experience for art enthusiasts.
Founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad, the museum opened its doors in 2015 and has since become a hub for contemporary art, hosting temporary exhibitions and installations that showcase the work of local, national, and international artists.
Its striking exterior is also a great complement to the Walt Disney Concert Hall that sits across the street.
I highly encourage anyone visiting Los Angeles to add the Broad Museum to their itinerary. Besides, the museum’s visit is completely free.
The museum’s collection includes over 2,000 works of art, focusing on contemporary art from the 1950s to the present. The museum's exhibitions and installations are designed to be interactive and immersive, inviting visitors to engage with the artwork on a deeper level.
