Point Bonita - The Best Place To Photograph San Francisco Bay
5/29/2016
If you're looking for great views of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, you should not miss Point Bonita with its famous lighthouse.
To get there is pretty straightforward - cross the Golden Gate Bridge south to north, and take the first exit after the visitors center's parking lot. Then take a left and drive all the way up the hill. Twisty Road is an attraction by itself.
You can stop at numerous lookout points to admire the view and take pictures.
The farther you can drive is Bonita Point YMCA with its parking lot. The entrance to the tunnel which leads you to the lighthouse is only 10 minutes walk, but see what stunning views are waiting for you!
Heart island?
The lighthouse is only open from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. There is no other way to get to the lighthouse except this man-made tunnel.
Picture taken from the other side of the tunnel.
Volcanic black sand beach.
Before you could use a walking path to the lighthouse. However, it collapsed in 1940 due to erosion. This suspension bridge was built in 1954.
